M.Comp. Dissertation: In-Progress
A downloadable game
In this dissertation I am hoping to explore optimisation through the lens of a procedurally generated terrain.
This program had initially started out as a personal project in creating an infinite procedurally generated landscape with a track to drive on. For the landscape I use layered Perlin noise, the terrain also contours around the track to provide a better racing environment. I decided that I wanted to explore optimisation for my dissertation, and so the best way to do this is by increasing the performance of a specific program.
I am going to experiment, measure, and examine multiple ways to enhance the performance of my baseline project. This includes features such as multi-threading, custom LOD implementation, and advanced searching algorithms.
This is project is being created in Unreal Engine 5. My car is created using Chaos Vehicles with assets from Vehicle Variety Pack Volume 2 - Switchboard Studios. I am focusing on the terrain and track generation, creating an interesting racing environment at the lowest possible performance cost.
